A Family Vaction
March-April
This short experimental film focuses on strucutural film tecniques which emerged in the 1960s. I remeber my professor in school every semester would go a great distance to get a 16mm copy of the film Wavelength by Micheal Snow. A 45 mintute zooming shot that probably bored the entire class. I didn’t sit there on the edge of my seat either, if anything I found myself laying deep into my seat daydreaming. These avante garde films seem most commonly to attract heavy analysis and written theory. Yet why I love these films is becuase the meditative daydreaming it conduces. I’ve never been a great reader or writer and I struggled to express my love for these flms academically, instead they have inspired me to make these meditiative experiances of my own.
November 2024 I found my self driving to California for a week long family vacation with a rugby ball sized camcorder. I filmed each day and was left with a large archive of footage. Every shot filmed was utilized once in chronlogical order and scored by Micheal Eyer and myself in his Salt Lake City living room. I created this film for my family and I wonder if it gives them an insight of my own perspective of this shared memory of ours. How they and other people may daydream while watching it I can only guess.
